Playing the "Blokeaphone"

Late last week, "Bloke" made a trip out West to hear his daughter (a rising oboe star) play with the SMU orchestra in Dallas. On Friday, he and his wife and daughter ventured further West to Ft. Worth for a brief visit. He brought along the now semi-famous CC 4 + 1 Buescher helicon. First of all, with satin silver finish, bright silver bell and gold plated tuining slides and valve caps, it is a beautiful piece of work. As far as how it plays and sounds; I think a person would be hard pressed to find another 4/4 CC tuba that works better that the "Blokeaphone". It plays easy, has a quick and even response, great intonation and a rock solid low register.

I also played his Gronitz PCK and compared it to mine. We discovered that the serial numbers on our horns are consecutive (XXX65 and XXX64). Both horns are very similar as one would expect.

It was a fun afternoon. I only wish we would have had more time.
