yea, I know it doesn't exist. They make a BBb, CC, and F 621 on the tiny 3/4 bugle. But they do not make an Eb. Has anyone ever cut down a CC version to Eb or tried to lengthen an F version to Eb?
Always thought that would be a cool horn.

Re: Yamaha YEB 621
Look at the Wessex Gnagey model EEb. You may see some influence there! I explored that possibility of cutting down the 621 CC which didn't work out because there were some very awkward spots to cut in the CC bugle. I decided to use a different bugle which did work out. In general I've found that cutting a CC to EEb presents some nearly insurmountable problems.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think besson makes a small ee flat along the lines of the three quarter size Yamaha tubas. It is not the 983 but rather identified as a 984.

How far is the Wessex Gnagey from what you're looking for?

Re: Yamaha YEB 621
I really see two possible options.
1.
buy one of these inexpensive Yamaha bugle-like Eb tubas
http://www.music123.com/brass-instrumen ... 4-eeb-tuba
and then buy a parts King or two with the appropriate bore and a bunch of extra parts and then take it to someone who does custom work to get it turned into a tuba something that may or may not be like what you want
....or just have a look at a Wessex Gnagey model, where Sam did all the figuring out already, and the valves are in the Yamaha-like setup already.

Re: Yamaha YEB 621
I will check out the Wessex/Gnagey Eb at the army conference.
I also want to check out a 983 if and when I would get a chance. My issue is with two deteriorated discs in my lower neck and my B&H Imperial Eb. The reach with the left arm is starting to irritate my neck issue. After playing for a two hour rehearsal my left arm is numb and neck is sore. I sometimes wonder if playing this horn for 30+ years may have contributed to my neck condition. But anyway I would like to try a valve-forward, left-leaning style horn to see if I could play that with out the discomfort.

Too bad this instrument doesn't exist- Weril J682:
I got that image from a search engine cache of an online sale on a Brazilian ebay-like site. Allegedly this model is a rarity even in its country of origin. No longer made, of course. Rumor has it, it was a decent effort at exactly this, the Eb 621, but who wants an Eb tuba?
