Hi i am looking for a euphonium and a e flat tuba for doubling. Both with 3+1valve configuration. Trombones are my main instruments.
Particularly looking for great intonation. Any ideas? What models are well known and dont break the bank? What should i look for in the used market?

Wessex will give a discount if you buy the two together
Shipping to Switzerland from U.K. is not expensive, or you would be welcome to visit, try and take back with you.
Both the Champion Eb tuba and Dolce euphonium are instruments you can't go wrong with - both great players.

Yes i am in Switzerland.
Wessex looks definitely like the way to go.
I just visited the us and the uk websites. Ordering from us would actually be cheaper for me due to the better exchange rate.
If i order the eb tuba from the us i can save 700 usd because the usd is weaker than british pound!
Maybe Jonathan can chime in, any possibilities to order from the uk and pay in usd?

Hi, The US store only sells within states and even Canada is supplied from UK as it is more cost effective due to the beneficial international shipping contracts we have in UK. However you are welcome to order from UK store and pay in US dollars. Due to the ever fluxuacting exchange rates that may be more ecconomical for you at the present time. Please email me at

I too would like to recommend a Wessex. Last month I had to sub on baritone in a local brass band. They provided a John Packer (3v compensator JP373) baritone. Tone was way too bright and 2-3 fingering was really flat. The principal baritone player with the same model horn, had to have the 3rd slide shortened quite a bit. Wessex horns get good reviews over on Dave Werden's forum by many people.

' might be best to look within Switzerland.
Wessex ships tuba to Switzerland for only US$120 - less than shipping within USA

VAT is sells tax and is payable if the tuba is bought within Switzerland, or imported - so makes no difference either way.
There is no import duty between UK and Switzerland, so no other charges.

You two are not speaking to one another.
I'll facilitate...
If I am in Switzerland, and buy a 1,500.00 eu-tuba-phone in USD or BPS, outside of a 120.00 shipping fee, is one obligated to pay any additional fees or duties to Switzerland??
Thank you for your time!!

There are no taxes to pay in UK (so 20% discount off listed UK price as customer is outside EU), but customer will get charged 8% VAT by the Switzerland authorities on import. Very simple!
As Wessex exports hundreds of instruments all around the world each year, I am only too familiar with the requirements and tax charges of difference destinations.

Jonathan is right. I d pay only 8% vat for import to Switzerland. No weight tax or such thing. And 20% off from uk price because i dont pay uk vat.
I d rather order from wessex than directly from china, because i know they do a qualitiy control and customer service.
Of course buying in Switzerland would be ideal, but there simply arent good deals around.
Off topic: i really get angry when i order something from outside Switzerland and the seller "forgets" giving me their vat off!

Excellent point! Wessex DOES do quality control on their stuff and have some different features as well.
Sometimes I think Bloke feels that this is his personal forum and he can dictate to HIS readers.

Sometimes people post here without including every bit of background info for various reasons. When I see certain posts or posters, I try to remember this.
There is usually a reason someone posts a dissenting view or opinion.
You must remember it because sometimes it disappears!!
