Rudolf Meinl Eb tubas

Post by GC »

Other than the recent picture of a damaged older Rudy Eb, I can't recall ever seeing pictures of RM Eb tubas. I know that they're not shown on their web page or in the downloadable PDF catalog, but I've heard repeatedly that they definitely make them to order. Would anyone who has one please post some pictures?

This photo from the RM site shows Yuto Hayashi playing one of their F tubas.

The reason I use this photo is that it is the only photo I have found that shows the angular type of valve tubing lay-out which I remember from a coups of Rudolf Meinl 6 and 5 valve Eb tubas seen some 20 or 25 years ago here in DK.

I may guess that Sb means silver plated?

No, the Sb stands for Nickel-Silver slides, valve caps, paddles etc.
The instrument is lacquered.

So looking at the back side, I assume that one of the left hand paddles is a second valve slide kicker (?).

I sometimes think, the older I get, that we forget about what great things come out of the R Meinl factory. Ivan Hammond used to say that (CC tubas anyways) the 5/4 was good, the 4/4 was trash, and the 3/4 was one of the better horns he ever played....
