Just got this one off ebay, and it cleaned up nicely. It's an old Boston, with U.S.Q.M.D engraving. serial number puts date of manufacture between 1898-1899. Cleaned up well. Pretty sweet little horn, plays well too! Looking for a mouthpiece though, so anyone have any recommendations for something like this? it'll need a bass trombone shank, as i find my only mouthpiece to fit it well is a Warburton 1GDL.

Denis Wick mouthpieces without an "L" on the number are small shank and designed for this type receiver (unless the receiver is unusually small). I have Wick 3 & 4 mouthpieces, and they work very well with the old small Eb's.

A fair number of other manufacturers make small shank or "small Euro shank" mouthpieces upon demand. Blokepieces and other modular mouthpieces often offer this shank size as an option.

Some folks use bass trombone mouthpieces in the old Eb's just fine while others hate them. Your mileage will vary.

You can change the mouthpiece receiver thus allowing a wide choice of standard shank mouthpieces. The Denis Wick mouthpieces do tend to work well on these horns, but they tend toward the small size. You may not enjoy that very much.

Wick mp sizes go from 1-5, the 1 being about the size of a Conn 120 Helleberg, the 2 about the size of a Bach 18, the 3 being about like the 24AW, and the 5 being pretty much bass trombone mp size. I really don't know what to compare the 4 to; it's a fairly small cup but has a lot of volume for its size, a true tuba mp that's not a misplaced bass bone cup.

Wick CC mouthpieces, XL mouthpieces, and S shallow cup mouthpieces are only available in large shanks, as far as I know. I have just bought the 2CC and 3CC mouthpieces for my Conn monster Eb, and like them so much that I'm retiring my other mouthpieces.
