now how do you pronouce "Cerveny"???
chair-VAIN-ee
You are close. According to my Czech born and raised neighbor, Cerveny is
pronounced CHAIR-vin-yee. It means the red one. The vin part is pronounced
as in venue. Ace
Thanks, Ace. I learned something today. :)

I am just an amateur nouncer, so these days i generally like to cover my bases and say it every possible way just to be sure...

Originally i thought it had the same root as helix, so i gave it a long sound.

Can the Ogden Nash paraody be got to work?

A fine ol' tuba the helicon.
Its valves play more than its bell can.

The only person I ever heard say it in person said HEElicon. So that is why I say it that way. HELLicon might be a better description overall :)

My last trying: In Germany the pronunciation is:

https://de.howtopronounce.com/german/helikon/" target="_blank" target="_blank

Please use the second example (womens voice) or similar like that:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... trisch.ogg" target="_blank" target="_blank

replace -ozentrisch with -conn like Conn Tuba :tuba:

When I had one, once in a while someone would pronounce it sounding a lot like "french horn." Not often, but more often than you might expect. Eb, not even an "F horn."
