Drumming without the drum

The other night at our band rehearsal when our bass drummer was gone, I played the part using the pressure difference caused by moving my slide before depressing the rotor valve. The director thought it was the bass drum until he looked up and nobody was there. I thought seriously about venting the valves on my horn, but the now I think it might come in handy. Has anyone else found any usefulness for this popping sound?

Dude, somehow it doesn't surprise me that you would do something like that.. lol

Dr. D would have been thoroughly confused.
