Who was H.W Tyrell?

My professor asked me to research the composers wrote the "standard" tuba etude books so that I can better understand the context in which they were written. Anywho, I was trying to find out about Tyrell (40 Advanced Studies for Bb Bass), but I can't find much from Google. Does anyone know a bit about this guy and would like to share?
