It was written by Charlie Vernon and a couple of his friends when he lived in Atlanta. The version with the Olde English B was for sale at one time...suitable for framing, I believe they said.

Mine's in a nice frame.

Let's lighten up here a little. My middle school band director gave me a copy a billion years ago. I now have that very copy taped to my instrument locker.

That's some of the best news I have heard in a very long time!

When I had a couple of lessons from Mike Moore, he said this was the Genesis of the LBC:

Written by Mike Moore, Charley Vernon, and Harry Maddox in the cellar of Mike's house when they were all living in Atlanta in the 60's. It is meant to be recited to the tune "You Got Trouble" from the Music Man. Try it, it works. I think the boys were quite "Oiled" when they wrote it. BTW, Mike's Dad was a GREAT tuba player with the great tuba player name of Jewell Moore. He played up to his late 80's and did so quite well. He was the tuba player with the Atlanta S.O. before Mike, who got the job at the tender age of 18. If memory serves me correct, they were/are the only tuba players to be with the orchestra. Kinda of a Southern Helleberg tradition.

Chuck is correct. Written in the late 60's before Charlie got the job in Baltimore. Kleinhammer would NEVER have written something like that. Later, in the 80's, at Mike Moore's house, a video was made of Charlie reciting the Creed, with the intent of marketing it. There was actually an ad in the Intl Musician for LBC productions, selling the printed version (suitable for framing), a t-shirt, and the video. Fortunately, heads with better sense prevailed, and the video was never sold.

Oh God, I forgot about the video. I remember seeing a trial cut, kinda like "Low Brass Players Gone Wild". Mike's wife would just shoo the girls out of the room and shake her head. Now, that was funny, but not as funny as Charley and Jamie Hafner as pirates in "Naughty Marietta" at BMC in 1980. Nw, THAT'S something I would truly love to see on video tape.

I have a couple of pictures of Charlie and Jamie in their Marietta costumes...I'll try to scan them and send them to you.

Yeah, the video was really funny. It was recorded on a medium speed, and one machine I saw it on had only short and long play...so it was like hearing Charlie recite it while breathing helium. Of course, the sight of him in Mike Moore's jacuzzi full of bubbles was disturbing.

I can one up that one: Chaley Vernon DANCING at BMC, summer of 1980. Now THAT was truly disturbing. I seem to remember Charley and Jaime getting a ROUSING ovation before they had even said a word.
