Any suggestions for a gig bag for a Conn 5J? Trying to keep it around the $200 range.
Thanks!

One of the Miraphone bags fits my 3J quite nicely. It is a top loader but built very well. It is not as nice as the Cronkite leather bags I have but it is a bunch cheaper. Good luck, Phil

I, too, need one for my 5J and have wondered if the Wessex B210 (19" bell, 38" length) would be a good fit. I measure the 5J to have an 18" bell and be about 36" in length. The Wessex bag appears to open on the side.

Wessex bags are unique in their "loader" orientation. I think "back loader" might be the best description for them.

I have one for my King 2341. The only way to get the horn in and out is to have the bag stand on its "bell". Which it does nicely. The bell of the tuba has to go in first (as well as come out last) then the bottom bow will slide in. The design of the bag that I have requires front action tubas to go in with the valves facing in. So you can't lay it down and use it like a more traditional side loader. Not sure if they're all oriented in the same direction as mine, though. But it makes sense since you wouldn't want the valves pushing against your back while using the backpack straps which are located in the "door" panel.

They're decent quality for the price. But the Miraphone bags are much nicer, if you don't mind top loaders. I'm no help on which size you need, though. Sorry.

I have a Pro-Tec Platinum Series gig bag on back order with Dillon's - seemed like the best best bet.
Thanks for the input - I am enjoying this very nice small tuba; quite a counterpoint to my Martins!

I would like to know what you think of the Pro-Tec Platinum case after you get it.

I was starting to look at the Humes and Berg Tuxedo case as a fairly inexpensive choice. I think it is similar to the Pro-Tec model C-240 but the one you have ordered, model PL-251, may be better built, is cheaper than the H&B, and is about the same price as the C-240.

I have a standard B&S gig bag that was for a 606P Im looking to sell for around $150. Not sure what the bell size is for the 606, but it might work for you.

I picked up the Pro-Tec Platinum series gig bag at Dillon's (thank you Matt Walters) and it fits well and and seems very well-made. It is priced right, too.

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions!

I ended up getting a used Miraphone bag for a 1291/1292 that was for sale here by InTuneBb. It fits my 5J perfectly. It is a top-loader which I may have to figure out how best to use -- I can't just hold the bell-end with one hand and the bag with the other like my trumpets. This is my first tuba and tuba bag so I have lots to learn. But first impressions are very positive about this purchase.

Kudos and much appreciation to InTuneBb for a great bag, great deal, and great delivery!!
