That I can up my game as an amateur with knowledge gained from Tubenet and lots of practice. Oh yeah, it's entertaining too!

I probably learn as much from what disappears from Tubenet as I do with what stays!!

That there's more than one way to skin a cat.
I also learned a lot of specifications and numbers that I absolutely don't care about anymore. Give me any horn and I'll sound like myself.

Re: What's the best thing you've learned on tubenet ?
I've learned that there are times that I just need to read a post and then stifle myself. But I do find that with my age and experience that there is a lot to share, and in the process, a lot to still learn. I've learned that I still keep learning and part of that is learning how to learn. So that is what I have learned.

Many things:
We're not alone in our addictions.
There's no need to re-invent the wheel, but wheels don't all roll the same for all people.
VERY few people but us care or even notice which tuba we play.
The smallest tuba we would play is still huge to almost everyone else.
Other tuba players are rarely your employer or even in attendance at the gig.(the employer/audience doesn't care that something is hard for a tuba)
Many other things. Thousands of equipment tidbits.
That annoying kids can occasionally grow up to be respected pros.(be patient with the younguns)

I first came to TubeNet a 15 years before Wessex Tubas. TubeNet opened my mind to a world of tubas beyond British style 3+1 compensated Eb and BBb. It is where I first learned about BAT.

I have to thank TN for introducing me to Matt Walters and ultimately my Eastman horn. I never would have considered this instrument—which has brought me so much joy and inspiration these last four months—on my own. I would have made a bad & discouraging purchase choice if not for the guidance I received here.

That the tuba community has much to offer
In the form of knowledge. Some discerning
Is necessary, however I have learned a lot
here. It is true, it is an addiction!

Re: What's the best thing you've learned on tubenet ?
I love this place. I'm here several times a day each and every day. From the rankest amateurs to honest-to-god professionals, from the most abused junkers to the absolute top of the line horns, this place has it all. It occasionally has stuff about every musical pursuit known to humanity and tubaists.
When you ask a serious question, the majority of ToobNetters will give you a serious answer. There was a time when a stupid, frivolous, or controversial question would draw instant derision and a flood of smartarsery. Then again, so might a perfectly reasonable question or comment. Not so much now; the TNFJ is a bit more civilized. Mostly.
I've learned more about the ToobWorld here than from any other source I can think of. This place is a wonderful source of legit information. But caveat emptor . . .
And thank you, Joe. You're the heart and soul of this place.
