How do you get rid of the water in the 4th valve of a King 1241?
The old "King Spin" doesn't work.
Help.

A more permanent solution: get your friendly neighborhood repair tech to install a water key on the bottom of all the crooks on that valve circuit.
I have little patience for tuba acrobatics, especially during performances. I remember watching a tuba solo recital a few years ago of a great player who, after every movement of an incredibly difficult work, paused 20-30 seconds to take out every slide, shake the water out, and even do a little half-spin to drain everything. His fantastic performance was marred by the half-minute of dead air, with the audience patiently waiting.

You might have to turn it twice, I do on mine. I turn it to the left/counter clock-wise (as I sit behind the horn) twice and empty the spit valve after each turn. I've got water keys in my drawer, I just haven't put them on yet....

Re: King 1241 4th Valve Water
My 1241 HAS a 4th valve bottom water key.
Problem is that the water is building up somewhere in the upper part where I can't find it. I've spun and NOTHING.
Help.

Pulling and dumping a slide costs nothing.

I installed three "Joykeys" on another members horn. He has always had a problem with water in all of his slides, and is a VERY wet player. He LOVES them.

For me it collects in that upward turned knuckle right as the tube exits the valve and again in a crook (looping downward) on the back of the horn.

Re: King 1241 4th Valve Water
I've been playing Kings since the eighties and have an observation that may help you with this. Like Jug says it takes two full spins AND water can only move as fast as it does.If you spin the horn too quickly the water won't all get to the spit valve. So maybe try it a little slower and see what happens. Kings Rule!, Ed

With a King on your lap you can accomplish the same thing as a complete spin by just rocking the horn end to end and front to back slowly. Aside from that... I put waterkeys on ALL of the crooks toward the bow end of the horn.
