Performing brass trio?

Postby 58mark » Thu May 18, 2017 11:08 am

Anybody seen any good arrangements for brass trio? My wife plays trumpet and French horn,, my daughter plays trombone and euphonium, and I play bass trombone, euphonium, and of course tuba

I was thinking if we used that flexibility and maybe even added my son as a percussionist (he's very good) we could have a nice little group that could do some fun performances.
The combination of trumpet, trombone, and my really small Eb tuba is actually a really cool sound.

Full arrangements are not a strength of mine, so I'm hoping to find something I can either modify or use as is.

Hi Mark,

I think I might have a jackpot for you and all would work with percussion as well!

Paul Chauvin is mostly known for his brass quintets, but before he passed away he also sent me a pile of trios. They can be found here:

They are not overly difficult, but sure are fun! Since they were meant for the ensemble you describe, you won't have to adapt anything.

Sounds like some good family time might be ahead :)

Good luck,

I'm working on re writing some trombone quartets for brass trio, ordered a flugelhorn for my wife, and am looking for an affordable Vibraphone for my son. We're excited!

Sounds interesting! I'm looking at trios for tuba and trombone. I've identified a few. Mostly for playing for fun. I will be looking at some things to perform at church as well. Lots of fun!
