Hi everyone, I was curious as what are some of your favorite books out there related to music. I am doing some summer reading, and just finished Brian Federiksen's Song and Wind and David McGill's Sound in Motion. Tonight I purchased Victor Wooten's The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music. Still looking for some other suggestions though. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Daniel

"Note Groupings"

and "Casals and the art of interpretation"

Both great books on interpretation - and good interpretation can save you lots of air when you're playing!

Sir Georg Solti Memoirs
and
Testimony: The Memoirs of Dmitri Shostakovich by Solmon Volkov (authenticity of this is in dispute, but still a great read)

Haven't finished, but enjoying it so far: A Devil to Play: One Man's Year-Long Quest to Master the Orchestra's Most Difficult Instrument by Jasper Rees (https://www.amazon.com/Devil-Play-Year- ... il+to+play" target="_blank" target="_blank)

Lots to quibble with in that title: "most difficult," "master" in a "year-long quest", etc... but entertaining and interesting so far.

Meredith Willson's "And There I Stood With My Piccolo" Autobiographical, humorous, anecdotal, some true stories and a bit of history. The title comes from a story about after a command concert at a european castle and being told that you can go to the casements, see the treasurer and fill your instruments with as much gold and jewells as will fit. The cellos and basses, timpanist, bass drum, tuba and players of other large instruments became instantly rich. ... and there I stood with my piccolo.
