Rotary Oil Spill

While putting some rotary oil in my tuba yesterday, some leaked into the carpet. It still remains and I've tried using detergent and dish soap to get it out.
Do any of you experts out there have ideas on what cleaner I should use. It's not a big spill, but noticeable.

Hope that the valve oil didn't soak into the carpet padding.
First, some clay-based kitty litter ground into the carpet will help to soak up excess oil. Vacuum that out.
Next, if you don't have an aerosol spray can of carpet/upholstery spot cleaner, try the heavy artillery: Open the windows.and use a few spoons of lacquer thinner and a small scrub brush. Wipe up excess liquid with a cotton rag.

Rotary valve oil (if it's petroleum-based) is mostly kerosene, so it will evaporate wtih time. I'd leave it alone (or maybe try a hair dryer to speed the process along).
If that doesn't work, use one of the "made for greasy carpet spot removal" commercial cleaners.

Well I've learned my lesson now to do any future oilings outside.

use the stain remover Carbona, the fat and grease formula, you can get it at Wal-Mart and most Grocery Stores.
