Arnold Jacobs/CSO/Vaughan Williams May 19 8 p.m.

Post by AndyL »

This Thursday's listings (May 19) in our local NPR station's program guide include:

Arnold Jacobs, tuba
Vaughan Williams: Tuba Concerto

on the weekly 8 p.m. broadcast of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

If you're in an area with regular CSO programming on NPR, check your local station's listings.

Or, there's an internet "listen now" link at:
http://www.bluelake.org/radio.html

Don't know if this broadcast will be something other than the commercially available version, but it seems often they're from live performance recordings.

Thanks for the head's-up! I have an LP of AJ playing the VW with the CSO. It may be that performance. The recording could be better, but the performance couldn't.

8:00pm Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Daniel Barenboim, Sir Georg Solti, conductors; Arnold Jacobs, tuba; Itzhak Perlman, violin; VAUGHAN WILLIAMS: Tuba Concerto; ELGAR: Violin Concerto, Op.61; TIPPETT: Symphony No.4

Solti never conducted the VW, Mazer did for the subscription, sooooooooooooo it's the ill-fated Barenboim recording.

I'd rather watch Thursday night Wrastling!

Now that I'd listen to!

Besides, Wrastling isn't on Tuesday nights.

I don't know the correct spelling. I only know it must have three syllables.

Wrestling is the Olympics, Wrasling (or maybe rasslin) is the WWF. Big difference, the WWF is real and the Olympics are fake.
