Anyone played anything on either one of these horns. I want to know if they are actually good for the price or just more cheaply made tubas.

Everyone will have their opinions. The only real answer to your question is to go play them for yourself.

The Berg IMHO is the better of the two tubas and is a terrific F tuba. Very easy to play, almost faultless intonation, consistent sound from top to bottom. Even though it is a bit smaller than the Strauss, it has a huge sound, no stuffy low register, and it seems to open up much more than the Strauss. For around 3K I can't imagine a better F tuba. Actually, for that matter, and for any price, it is a lot of horn.

I have the Strauss, but a modified version, I prefer the larger of the two though

Friend of mine recently got a Berg, to speak for the latest ones out of the Michigan outlet. He loves it but noted that for some notes, he has to use some alternate fingerings because of the ergonomics of the horn and the positioning of the slides. Beyond that, I got to playtest his horn and it has a great sound out of the bell, is very free-blowing, and was very in-tune. I'd recommend it.
