Ok, before I pull the trigger here, those of you with experience on the 392, I know it does great in Wind Ensembles/bands, how does it hold up in say a 80 piece regional orchestra??? Don't make quite enough as a band director to afford a 5/4 and a small horn anymore, so I'm looking at going this way.....

That was actually exactly what I had planned! I knew that more would have experience with the real thing as opposed to the JP. I tried the JP in April for a short time and loved everything about it. I have played a 392 in a quintet setting before and once in a band, but never in the orchestra...

I played the 392 for 2 years in a orchestra with no problem. It's plenty of tuba for a full, modern orchestra and blends well with the other brass.

How is that 2-3 combo? I could never play an Eb in tune on my friend's HB-21.

I just went ahead and tuned my horn to check on that. My HB-21's 2-3 combo is right in tune on both its Ab and Eb as long as its constituent slides are tuned correctly.
