Hello TubeNet,

I was wondering if someone could identify the model on this miraphone. It is a BBb as stated in the title. There is a number listed as 11100 on the bell but I can not find anything on this being a model.

Below is a link to a google drive folder with pictures

Thank you so much for the help! :tuba:

186, I think. Doesn't look big enough to be 187, but I've been wrong before. I'm sure someone who knows their stuff will chime in soon enough and we'll both learn something.

95% sure it's a 186 (if not it's a 184 BBb) but point and size of reference isn't there so I can't fully tell. Based on the Serial Number and the use of online resources It was made in 1978.

The traditional Miraphone rotary tubas had no model designation markings on the instrument. This instrument, with the S-style linkage arms, is old-enough that it would have a smaller bell diameter than the modern equivalent. If it has a 16.5" bell and an approx. .770" bore, it is an old-style 0086A, or what we in the US call a model 186-4U. From the photos it is impossible to tell for sure, but looking at the the proportions in comparison to the countertop behind it in one of the photos, it looks possible that it might be a smaller model, such as a 184 or 185. Measurements will tell you for sure.
