Send me one. I'll make sure it sounds plenty difficult to play...bloke wrote:My tubas are just too easy to play, and it just makes me feel really guilty. I'm losing sleep, and have even begun to develop a slight tic on the right side of my face.
What are some things that I can do to them to make them play more like other tubas? The playing field must be leveled !
fwiw...I've tried "practicing less", but cannot seem to figure out a way to get that quantity of time below 0:00 .

I'm with Taco. Trade me your custom helicon for my 3V, .63"-bore sousa. That should even out things with your standing gigs.

Re: unfair advantage: guilt feelings
Ha!!! At my age, who wants a leveled playing field, and who gives a hoot about guilt? I'll take every advantage I can get. I've "paid my dues" and deserve it. Finally after 50 years of playing on crappy old beaters, I now have a stash of pretty nice horns that play easity and sound great. I also now have the luxury time to practice a bit. Do I feel guilty that some of my younger colleague still have those demanding careers? Hell no. So Bloke, I confess I bit the hook from your little troll and shared a rant with you. I suppose I do have a luxury of time, or else why would I waste it pontificating with the sophmoric pseudowisdom of an old geezer.
I leave this for you:
An old ngeezer, when applying for a job was asked: "What do you think is your greatest weakness" The old fart replied: "Honesty, yes, honesty" The fellow doing the job interview came back at him and said: "I don't think honesty is a weakness." to which the old guy chimed back: "I don't give a damn what you think" Thus, why old men don't get hired.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Dial it down. And by that I mean turn the mouthpiece 90 degrees counter clockwise.

I think the proper term used by those who dabble in the market of selling single smokes is "loosey".

That's a no brainer,
I suggest we trade tuba's!
I guarantee ALL my tubas need to be worked on by someone who knows what they are doing.

Re: unfair advantage: guilt feelings
To bring Bloke's past into modern terms, he was a bit of a hustler. I give him points for creativity. I'm sure the current smoke free folks would find his behavior deplorable, but that is now and this was then. I'm glad all his tubas are in wonderful shape, so are mine. I do play for paying gigs, but mine are not as lucrative as his. Most of the time I play for old people to make them happy. Then again, I'm retired with a pension, so I can afford to be more generous.

Ship it to a school across the country with UPS for a year and then have them ship it back via air mail

Re: unfair advantage: guilt feelings
Unfortunately my generously portioned sized doesn't allow me the luxury of wearing a tuxedo without perspiring and thus requiring a visit to the local dry-cleaners. Don't gloat, Bloke. It... you know what, nevermind, I'm not gonna win this.bloke wrote: "Playing the tuba" is still the easiest thing that it do for remuneration.
