Miraphone 1291

Post by ronr »

I'm Jonesing for (or at least the opportunity to play) a Miraphone 1291 BBB in the Minneapolis area. I'm not averse to looking at a clone; I'm pretty sure Wessex makes one. What else should I be looking at? Thanks.

I've owned both a 'clone' and the 'real deal'. While I don't think there is $6,000 difference in the way a new one of each will play... I would really lean towards a used 'real deal' than a new 'clone'.

The 191/1291 family are my favorite tubas. I'd prefer to own a Miraphone bit the Wessex clone I played a few years ago played great. I see Dillon's is still selling them-

I currently own both a clone and the original and my experience mirrors what Dan says.
I would buy the USED 1291 any day over a new clone but I couldn't pull the trigger on a NEW 1291 vs a new clone.

In a side by side comparison took more wind on the clone vs the real think. Also the valve caps kept coming off the clone

Now of course the question becomes where to find the real deal used? Thanks all.
