Very nice -those guys sound great. I'm amazed at how many names covered it thru the years - especially right after it first came out in '68. One of those tunes where everything else seems to stop and you get transported back to a different era when it comes on the radio. I think the original release he did with the Wrecking Crew is the best version.

Jimmy Webb wrote both the melody and lyrics (which makes sense, as they are so closely incorporated). It's really a remarkable song, as the lyrics offer the duality of a mundane story and overwhelming emotion.
