Begging for damage

Postby Art Hovey » Thu Aug 10, 2017 11:18 pm

Why do so many people trying to sell used tubas with Yama-style 3rd valve slides like this:

-choose to pull the slide out and put it in backward like this?

The whole point of that type of slide is to minimize potential damage by avoiding parts that stick out.

My students - over a number of decades - all have stated that this looks cooler to them. It is intentional. When I point out why it is backwards they fix it. Then the next time I see them it has been installed backwards again.

Art, you're just not cool enough for these folks, man. HAHAHA!!!

A contentious tuba player installs the slide that way so that they can have someplace to rest their pencils... across the inside bows of the slide when they're not using them! :P
