Are we supposed to believe taking a tuba to a qualified professional repair tech to see in person gets better results that taking it to the TNFJ??

Piggy-back slide is a new term to me.

Is it what also is seen in some 3rd valve loops of Bach Stradivarius Bb trumpets?

The slide with the crook is pulled to tune the minor third of the loop.when the slide is used alone, whereas the tuning when used in combinations with other valves is achieved by pushing the ring that sits on an insert between the crook part and the slide receivers sitting on the 3rd piston casing.

Is it the insert that you call a piggy-back slide?

As in the W-slides as the low slides for Dual Hi-Lo Pitch instruments known from the US from quite exactly a century ago.

And as known from the folded-back 5th slides on especially some German made CC-tubas.

I have had 3 new horns and 3 used ones now, over a period of years. I think first owners get saddled with more problems than second owners.

On trumpets this is usually referred to as a dump slide (for the obvious reason ... these slides do not have a water key), although it can be also be used as a non-on-the-fly tuning slide for the 3rd valve.

How about we change the second clause to "... and you can take your tuba to your repair tech in the sure expectation that it will come back with its problems fixed"?
