Hey guys,

Teaching band in Colorado Springs, CO. Think this is a great resource for serious tuba students late into their high school careers, taking lessons, etc. looking into getting their own equipment, and wondering if anyone here knows of websites for the rest of the instruments, like this?

Specifically oboe, currently, but if you know of other instrument websites, that would be great!

There are lots of individual players with excellent sites. Sarah Willis on horn, for example.

Younger players are probably on Facebook instead of forums.

Players my age are still on listservs wondering why we don't get any email.

Tubenet is a great resource if you like jokes. That one thread in the "off topic" is still going strong after a decade plus.

For tuba stuff it's ok. It's like politics though, nobody really agrees on anything. Fast air or slow air? American or Euro shank? CC vs BBb? Rotor vs piston? "More air" or articulating? Lacquer vs silver vs satin silver vs satin brass vs raw brass vs a belt tied around the belt??

I've looked for "other tubenets" before and I've never found one that replicated what is here on the same level. We just happened to be the right community, at the right place and time in the history of the internet era. This is the Goldilocks of instrument forums.

TalkBass.com is the largest online community for Bass Guitar & Double Bass. Great resource.

The lack of an accepted method has a lot to do with this. Other instruments have a lot more in the way of a developed approach, traditions, better known repertoire, recorded performances, etc. We have a little sliver and a lot of people reading down an octave or playing a transcription.

On trumpetherald, the biggest, longest-running, most argued about subject is on what names to give notes on ledger lines above the staff. E.g., exactly which note is double G??

The second biggest argument is about air pressure. Throw in the analogy of airflow to a water hose and we're up to 90% of the discussion.

It's not tubenet, but there are some knowledgable and helpful people there as well as quite a few people with basic questions. Nice bunch.
