Anyone flown with tall Yamaha molded plastic case?

Hello all,

I have flown many times with the shorter Yamaha molded plastic cases from the 822F/C, 321 Eb, 661 CC, etc and have had no problems with weight or size. Has anyone flown with the taller case meant for the YBB-321/201 BBb? Is it still within the size limits?

If anyone has either size Yamaha molded plastic case laying around and wants to get rid of it cheap, I'd be interested.

If it makes any difference, I mean the old blob-shaped cases, not the ones with the skinny bell flare.

If you mean these cases, yes. The result: DON'T do it. Offered virtually no protection when *mystery airline* dropped the horn a few ft. The crinkled bell and partially messed up leadipipe (no idea how that got damaged) did not leave a good impression as far as the integrity of the case, which was also cracked around the bell area. Glad it was a school horn and not mine . If you haven't already considered (you probably have...), I would buy a seat for the horn, and not check it. Better yet, if possible, not travel with it all.

Flown with the yes, but as mentioned. The ABS is as thin (maybe thinner) than a bleach bottle.
Instrument survived, case not so much
My friends instrument took heavy damage, so did case.

Maybe the type of case I'm talking about is older or more rare than I thought. Thick plastic, only vaguely tuba-shaped. Like this one:
