Hi guys!

I 've been taking with my friend which is a trombone player and he asked my - "Is that make a sense to play tuba or trombone is 21th century?"
He's argue was that now
all around the world are thousands of "good" player but only few of them can have a job in orchestra and they have to be lucky or have good day while audition.
I see (for example) that in my country(Poland) we have something about 30 string orchestras(opras and Philharmonics) and 10 military bands and everywhere are now tuba players so it's impossible to have job there. In other country like Germany I know that is the same situation.Money in those orchestras are bad too because we are earning 400-1000$ per month depend where we are playing so it's hard to live with that money:/

How does it looks like in you country? For one place in orchestra sometimes 15 tuba players are coming for audition so its like playing in casino

What do you think about it?
I hope you understand what I mean because I'm not good in writing post like this in English :P

I expect this applies to all the orchestra instruments. It is also somewhat unrealistic, to learn to play violin with the goal of landing a chair in a fully paid orchestra. Or even the goal to make enough money to support yourself by playing any orchestra instrument, other than the piano perhaps.

So does it make sense to play any musical instrument? I think so! I like music enough, that I will actually play sometimes even if no one pays me to do it.
