I found two things on the web which sort of give info, but I'm not sure enough to satisfy your question.

Here ya go though. Check out the two lengthier comments.

Some MUSICA tubas were Cerveny stencils, others were B&S stencils.

The tuba linked to in the original post appears to be a B&S stencil. It doesn't appear to be that old or used very much. I'd say probably a 1990s vintage tuba, perhaps even newer than that.

I'll second Tom's opinion, it certainly looks B&S to me (the flipped fifth valve practically screams this).

I played one of these once. It was quite similar to a 'tall' PT-4, with cylindrical bore through the valves and a 16.5 inch bell ('tall' PT-4's have a 19 inch bell usually), and seemed like a good all around horn. If there's a serial number (most B&S tubas have it on the mouthpiece receiver), you can usually get a date of manufacture by contacting Robert Tucci or theberlinertuba, both of whom are very friendly and have a great deal of expertise in all things B&S.

Good luck.

I played on a couple of B&S/VMI-made Musica tubas roughly 15 years ago, one in BBb and one in CC, just like yours. I thought it a very nice playing tuba with a solid, focused sound. From what I remember, the response and pitch were good, too.
The CC version either had the standard flat-whole tone or 2-tone fifth valve slide, I think. The were imported/sold thru UMI (now Conn-Selmer) and in affiliated music stores in the late 1990s - early 2000s. Nice tubas :tuba: Older Musica-labeled tubas tend to be Cerveny stencils (as stated before).

An earlier thread about B&S is here:

And this thread has a list of the stencil names we know about that were used on these tubas:

Hope this helps. :tuba:

The factory that made the OP’s tuba may be determined from one factor alone, the thumbring plate, which says B&S.

The absence of S-links combined with the presence of spiral springs excludes the second line, student level, named Weltklang.
