Thanks. I sampled much of it and will listen to it in total later tonight. The sound quality isn't great, but - quite obviously! - it's a solid performance.
Cleveland made a fabulous sounding recording of Mahler 6 with Dohnanyi on Decca, except for one annoying facet: the inexplicable use of a metallic 'ping' for the two hammer strokes (Mahler clearly states that the hammer is to be non-metallic). Ron Bishop sounded terrific on it.

I love the old Szell/Cleveland recording of Mahler 6 from 1967. As I recall, Bishop sounded great on that one as well. I need to re-listen.
I asked Ron Bishop what recordings he was most proud of, and he mentioned the 1969 Bruckner 8 recording with Szell as one. Check it out on vinyl, if you can find it. It's the definitive recording for me personally.
