I voted for the fouth option. I don't really think laquer matters much when considering sound, but I have heard there are people like Roger Bobo who swear they can hear the difference. I don't believe it.

Great-looking horns, mellowsmokeman
I like my horns for how they feel and play. I have just about every finish you can imagine including bright silver, satin silver, lacquered, raw brass, hybrid horns, and yes... even a fiberglass sousa. All have their place. Play what you like.

Horn Sound and playability are the most important aspects but after that I really do love the look of a silver horn.
I know it is all mental but I have it in my head that the silver gives more "ding protection" even if there really is not really enough on them to do much in that regard. I also find silver the easiest for me to keep clean. I am sure it is just that silver makes me be more careful of the environment around me and requires me to polish more often but it works!

I prefer whichever horn makes me sound the best. Period.

I agree with the earlier poster about raw brass. Too bad that wasn't an option on the list.

I guess they're mostly silver plated, but I don't think that was the deciding factor on the purchase of any of these (or the others in the attic waiting to be restored).
