My guess is that some of the manufacturing differences move the nodes of some (or all) the notes some distances in the horn + or -, and that the result of this is longer or shorter lengths needed for the same end result. I imagine that a slight gap in the tubing near a critical point could "shade" a node, but you would need someone far more knowledgable in physics than I to explain it...
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
