One of my instruments is a "heavy hitter", a Willson BBb. Most of the mouthpieces I tried worked alright. What really turned my ax around is the Canadian Brass MB-50. The flexibility of the mouthpiece balances the rigid nature of the horn.
Heavy tubas are fine if not for the back.

Re: Mouthpieces for heavy tubas
On my Willson CC, i find that large mouthpieces work best. Thick metal means it can take a lot of pushing without breaking up. The Tilz WH -B2, PT-88, and my Thein RCC have all worked very well for me. I found that the Monette 98 was great too, and offered killer response.
Weight used to be an issue for me, but now that my toddler far outweighs the tuba... And wants to be picked up... And wiggles all around... The large but stationary tuba isn't so bad anymore.
