Eastman 426 vs Yamaha 621 vs Mack Brass EU1150?

Post by philnotfil »

We've been saving up for a euphonium to add to our family (we have a Besson Sovereign BBb and a little Schiller Eb tenor horn, but our oldest daughter is moving onto the tenor horn so my wife needs another instrument). We both prefer the 3+1 configuration, so we've passed on several Yamaha 321s locally.

We've finally talked ourselves into the Mack Brass compensating horn, but just recently two new (used) horns showed up in areas we will be close to on an upcoming roadtrip, an Eastman 426 and a Yamaha 621. Both are 3+1, neither are compensating. The prices are all about the same (the Eastman would be $100 cheaper, but we have a little more than that saved up and set aside, so that isn't too much of a consideration), and I trust the Yamaha durability more than the others. But I do prefer the compensating horn if I can get it.

Any thoughts on which one you would prefer (and why)? Anything to watch for when we go and play them?

Thanks,
Phillip
