I was looking around my family tree and a stumbled across my great great (another couple greats) grandfather, Isaac Abel. I found this picture of my ancestor in a band he played in, he played a saxhorn as best as I can tell. I guess to playing is in my blood :). I figured it would be fun to share a fun picture like this and maybe one of you on this forum would be able to identify what instrument he is holding in this picture.

Does anyone else have any interesting stories about ancestors playing instruments?

Hard to tell exactly, but it doesn't appear to be a saxhorn design. The bell appears too big. It looks like a fairly large tuba of the late 1800's. The caption says the band was established 1866, but this picture isn't that early.
