Quite a while ago someone posted a video of Elvis Presley performing Crow Jane, suggesting that it represented the pinnacle of that elusive quality "soul". At the time I remembered mentally comparing Presley's rendition unfavorably with those from Carl Martin through Skip James and even Erika Lewis (and the plethora in between).
Just now, revisiting some of the glorious collaborations between Howard Johnson's Gravity crew and Taj Mahal reminded me of that old post.
