New evidence for the very first Sousaphone!

Post by Dave Detwiler »

Hi all - I stumbled upon another rare reference to the very first Sousaphone. You can read about it here: http://tubapastor.blogspot.com/2017/12/ ... first.html
Played an F. E. Olds 4-valve BBb in high school (late '70s)
Led the USC Trojan Marching Band tuba section (early '80s)
Now playing an F. Schmidt (=VMI) 3301 and goofing around
on a 1927 Pan American 64K Sousaphone Grand

For some, yes, but up until a few years ago, there was no conclusive evidence from the time the first Sousaphone was made. And so the debate has continued - and it still continues, as you can see here, https://www.cgconnhorns.com/ where Conn still claims to have built the very first Sousaphone! That's why I keep posting what I find.
