"slow" valves

I recently purchased a Eb tuba (courtouis), and i really like the sound of it. However, compared to the old Besson 700 i used to play, the valves seem heavy and slower.
Is there anything I can do to get more speedy valves?

edit: i have piston style valves, not rotary

My thoughts: Try new valve springs first. If problem still persist, try thinner oil. If still slow, have it checked by a repairman.

Yes, strong springs will provide greater force and will accelerate the mass of the valves faster, resulting in higher valve speed on its returning path.
The drawback of stronger springs is, of course, that they´ll take care of half the problem, only. You´ll need increased force in your fingers, plus the valves will act just as sluggish on their way in as they did before, except if you increase your force even further.

Having the valves and your finger position checked might be the first way to go.
Did you buy the horn used or brand new ?
Used piston valves will be worn to the owner´s specific hand and finger positions. It´ll take some time after purchasing to have the valves get used to YOUR new hand position.

I live in Norway too, tuba-petter!
It is in fact the 181 and the valves are as you say quite heavy.
I purchased it used.
