Removing light scratches from lacquer.

Sorry if this has been covered here before, but does anyone have any tips for removing the light scratches (not down into the brass,) from the finish of lacquered horns? It would seem that they could be addressed with a combination of filling and buffing, although the heat that could be generated from the buffing process would be a concern. (If it makes any difference, and I think it does, it's my Miraphone's cellulose lacquer that is the biggest concern right now.)
