Slide Extension

I played a Miraphone 186 5 valve where the 5th valve was 2/3 combination. I have just started playing my current horn where the 5th is 1/2 combination. Being that the 5th valve circuit has two slides, and the inner nested slide has enough room, I am interested to see if such a modification has been done with success. I found that if I pull the inner slide all the way to the tips, and pull the outer slide halfway, I can get the 2/3 combo I'm used to playing.

Any thoughts from the technicians amongst us?

Already commercially available for a 1291

Can't see any reason why the same concept can't be applied to the 186.

You didn't say what your new horn is. But 186 parts are relatively easy to find.... extra crooks and tubing should be available to do whatever you want.

I measured the 5th Valve slides 20.34mm O.D. (0.807"), and the tube thickness is 0.51mm (0.020"). This horn is built with two slides for the 5th valve, the outer is skinny and the inner is wide. Since the skinny slide is on the outside of the wrap, I really don't want to extend that one. But the wide one can be extended enough and keep the alternation nicely concealed behind the valves.

I'm going to try my hand at this adaptation. So I need the following parts...

Qty 2 - 6" long outer slide (0.807" I.D.)
Qty 2 - 3" long inner slide (0.807" O.D.)
Hardware to secure the two extension legs
