Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts

Tchaikovsky, Strauss, and Beethoven will all be rolling over in their graves during this year’s Tuba/Euphonium PlayIN. Join Principal Tuba Carol Jantsch, members of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and special guest ensemble Tubular (the world’s greatest tuba cover band) for this extravaganza including works like Tchaikovsky Swan Lake, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, and Bizet’s Carmen; plus “O More Tuba,” with apologies to Carl Orff. Bring your horn and play along, or just enjoy the beautiful rumbling noises—either way, you won’t want to miss the spectacle of the season!

This sounds like a great idea that could/should be duplicated in other cities. Perhaps as an introduction or ending to a symphony concert. Symphonies are always trying to augment the audience and this might be one way. Maybe with some kind of "Tubby the Tuba" story for young people, which would bring in young married couples. It seems a shame that tubists are limited to Tuba Christmas once a year, so play-ins in the spring or fall symphony season would be another great event.
