At the concert’s opening, CSO president Jonathan Martin announced a newly-endowed chair. Ashley and Barbara Ford have endowed the principal tuba chair, currently held by Christopher Olka.

Thanks for the well wishes, guys! It’s been a dream as long as I’ve had an orchestra job. The Cincinnati Symphony has done a tremendous job as financial stewards of the orchestra. Almost every chair in the orchestra is endowed and the last I heard, we were ranked around #5 amongst American orchestras in regards to financial holdings. I believe we are one slot above NYP currently.

It’s a great feeling to be appreciated so much by the community and not have to worry about a strike or lockout every few years. I’m truly blessed to be a part of the organization.
