I played the Tuba Tiger Rag as part of quintet repertoire for several years. Audiences love it! You can hear an excerpt from it on the Brass Quintet Concert page under the Repertoire page of our web site at http://www.homewoodbrass.com.

It is a great solo. But, you have to have a real good quintet to play it. The first trumpet is on piccolo most of the way. It is a long piece. Endurance is a factor for all. Though, no improvisation is required, be sure that your quintet can handle jazz figures without sounding like "fish out of water."

It is a fun piece. Give it a try.

"Hock" from Goff Richards' Homage to the Noble Grape is a fun tuba solo accompanied by 9 of the 10-piece brass ensemble players (also transcribed for brass band accompaniment). If you take all of the ossia notes, the solo has a written range of 4 1/2 octaves! It was recorded by Oren Marshall and the London Brass.
