Strap for stand-up gig?

The search function is not being my friend. I know this topic has been discussed more than once but it is not coming up in Search. I have a couple of brief standing gigs coming up, but they aren't so brief that I can hold up my 6/4 Holton 345 with my thigh. Haven't folks used a rifle strap or some such in similar situations?

I like the neotech on my mw HoJo.it can take some experimentation to find the right combination of straps and buckles though. Also make sure the straps can fit round the bow of your Holton.

I have a Meinl Weston provided by work and it's great if you have a horn with a hook on the bottom bow. It's perfect on a 186 type tuba.

I have a Neotech that's mine and use it with my Eb (But have used it on other tubas also)

I'd say go with the Neotech because it's 1/3 the price and it's good. That said, if you have 5 nights a week of polka band standing gigs and are you a rotary valve german tuba, get the M-W. The stability of that front plate is nice.

You have strap rings?

My Holton is a 109, BBb bell front and likely heavier than yours thanks to the bell. I have a strap on it, and, I think needless to say, I haven't used it much; it's as much to grab ahold of when hauling the tuba around. But I put it on and blew few notes just now. They'd better really be brief gigs, but you'll probably make it. This is really in another dimension of grief than carrying around a 186 or a Hojo or something. You know.

What I have is some climbing rope, or webbing. Woven nylon tube that lays flat. That makes for a rounder, nicer edge than real flat webbing, and the edge has a lot to do with how painful it's going to be. If there's any outdoor sports places nearby with climbing stuff, they can cut off a couple yards for you really cheap, and you can tie up a sling and find out how it's going to feel. I'm sure there are better options, but not a lot better, unless they have found some way around the ordinary laws of physics.

You might consider this. I don't know the cost but they are used to great effect by Willy Brandstötter of Mnozil Brass and Carol Jantsch of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

I had Neotech harness and while playing on Cracow Main square with my jazz band lowest strap broke and i almost loosed mu teeth and broked my B&S tuba. I will never again buy this harness it's unsafe. the strap was almost new i played 4 or 5 times for 3 hours before. I put it on good place in my tuba so it wasnt my false. Also my friend from military band loosed his 1st teeth while playing becasue strap broked.

Thank you for the recommendations on the Neotech sling. It works with the rings on my big Holton, and it seems well made. It carries enough of the load that I can play a standing gig. The plastic connectors do concern me a bit because of potential breakage, so I'll keep an eye on them. All things considered the price is right too!

I made a stand from a plastic water closet [aka toilet] flange, some schedule 40 pipe and a Quick Cap. All can be purchased at the local hardware. Paint it black. Play it standing and put your toes on the base of the flange to steady it. You will have to play with the height adjustment to get it so it is correct but once you do you won't have to do it again.
