Hi all,

I've purchased some replacement springs online that appear to be the right size, however I found them to be too soft.

It feels like the valves are bouncing back and are just a tad too slow returning.

Looking for recommendations on the best source to replace these springs for my Conn 20J with something more firm?

Have your tech order some Conn/Selmer SU30117 springs or the generic Allied A383 springs. If those don't work for you... you might need some other type of piston work.

That shows up as a slide crook, Dan. Can you check the number? I cannot find that large of a spring and I need eight of them! I wish they made is easier to order stuff. It is like you need Divine Intervention to locate certain parts...

Sorry. The spring would be a SU30117.

So many B.and I.nstrument R.epair T.echnicians incorrectly stick Conn sousaphone springs into other brands of sousaphones (and tubas), that I end up with a huge box of used Conn sousaphone springs, tossing in the box - at least - those that weren't stretched out four inches long by some young scholars who were attempting to overcome lime deposits.
