Beginner Tenor Tuba

Post by TheAltoHornGuy »

Hello,

I recently just purchased a Mirafone from Tubenet and I am wishing to start the Tenor Tuba (I think this name is better than euphonium!). What pieces or solos are famous for Tenor Tuba? Really liking the sound of the Horovitz Concerto and the Mahler 7 solo.

If you're talking orchestra music, then you've got Don Quixote, Ein Heldenleben, Mahler 7, and Bydlo. There's also The Planets and the Janacek Sinfonietta, but those are cut-and-clear "euphonium" parts and should be played as such.

Any solo music for euphonium would be playable on a tenor tuba, although a lot of the more technical rep might be a bit tougher to pull off.
