Does anyone know if he still plays, or if he's still alive? I haven't heard anything about him since about 1998.

Michael Lind
Michael is retired from the Stockholm Philharmonic but continues to teach.
His recordings are milestones in the history and development of the tuba and it's literature. Highly recommended are:
Michael Lind-Tuba (Arban,Koch, Gregson, Wilder, Marcello)
Michael Lind-Tuba Virtuoso (Lundqust, Nilsson, Vaughan Williams, Jacobson)
Concertos by Ole Schmidt (Ole Schmidt Concerto for Tuba)
With his huge lung capacity, Mike could play entire sections of the Carnival of Venice on one breath, at a high dynamic level.
All recordings are of very high musical quality. Mike mentioned that he personally financed some of those utilizing full symphonic ensembes.

There was a Tubenet member who worked in a music store in the World Trade Center who would sometimes alert us to specials. He posted once that there was 1 copy available which I very quickly grabbed. This was only days or a few weeks before 9-11. Never heard of or from him again. I've often wondered if maybe he was one who perished.
As an aside - when I was studying with Jake he would often say " Be a Bob Tucci".
