What is the volume in cubic angstroms ???

Enquiring minds want to know...........

"EDIT"
Thinking about this calculation - you might find you've mined a cryptocoin in the process. "Tubacoin", "Blokebit" ????? Just be careful - your electricity bill will get monstrous!

As a research chemist, I think the volume question is poorly-defined, since a tuba is mostly empty space--are you referring only to the space taken up by the brass alloy itself (copper and zinc atoms), or also the column of air it encloses?

Using the rough metric that a 5/4 BBb tuba weighs 24-25 lbs, you can use the density of brass to calculate that the volume occupied by the tuba's metal atoms is (24-25 lbs) * (453.592 g / lb) / (8.73 g/cm³) * (1 L / 1000 cm³) = 1.247-1.299 Liters * (1e+27 Angstroms³ / L) = 1.247e+27-1.299e+27 Angstroms³.

However, if you want to consider the complex geometric solid enclosed by the brass surface, that becomes a much more challenging and horn/bore-specific problem.

Corollary: the amount of brass contained in your 5/4 BBb tuba could fit in 3 Aquafina water bottles. :tuba:

What is the height of atypical 5/4 size BBb rotary tuba?

If the volume of a cube is the total enclosed by its surface I would think such would apply to a tuba as well. Of course one would have to assume that there is a "surface" defining each end of the tube, unless one only wants to define volume as what can be contained within the object. So, if one wants to measure the amount of water which can be put unto a tuba (with no exit points) and convert that to cubic angstroms, that could suffice. Much simpler since you don't need to consider things like braces and valve buttons.

sorry...
I don't know how to convert atypical Angstroms to rotors.
Crap, I only know atypical Angstroms to Rotax.

39" is as good a guess as any BUT there can be significant variation between models of tuba. Do NOT buy a case based on that measurement.

They DO. That way you only need one case for all of your horns. Don't you have one!?
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Do you believe a gig bag is enough protection in the belly of the plane for my Yamayork when I fly to Europe? :)

As you go higher in the atmosphere, there is less protection from the harmful radiation coming from outer space. So, if your gig bag is lined with lead, it will better protect your tuba from radioactive angstroms.

Isn't girth more of a factor than height in determining the informal assignment of "5/4" to a tuba (cf. Miraphone 186 compared to 187/188)? After all, I am 5/4 in girth now than I was as a young man, but no taller. In fact, due to the girth, I may actually be a half-inch shorter!
