Slightly weird jazz

Post by Tubadork »

Hey,
I play in a group called Three Way Mirror and our first album New Normal has just come out.

The group is inspired by Arthur Blythe's Bush Baby album (with Bob Stewart).
It’s Sax, congas and tuba. It’s a cool group that stretched me a bunch as a player.

Hope you like it!

Dig it!

Thanks for posting. I'm a big Arthur Blythe/Bob Stewart fan, and this certainly captures that sound/spirit.

this is very good! I'll be putting the headphones on for this later on tonight. Playing without a chord instrument really frees things up. One of my all time favorites gigs was when I talked a friend of mine into doing an upright bass & conga drum duo for his gallery opening. Talk about total freedom! I would set-up a riff then solo over the rhythm. Changing meter or key centers happens freely & with the right percussionist it can really be fun. It was totally improvised - but folks commented that it was so complex and tight/well rehearsed.

Congrats on a wonderful project!

The old vinyl bush baby sitting on my shelf wears a big smile on it's face! :D

Thanks for sharing, Tubadork.

I have a similar project with the same instrumentation plus a bari sax player. Lots of fun and very free.

Keep it up!

This is precisely the sort of thing I'd like to fall into. Congrats.
