I’ve been shedding my euphonium chops, and I think i’m ready to go to the local jam session and blow over a blues.
I’m just worried about being too loud and/ or having a too wooly sound. Would a straight mute help me to cut through and tame my volume a bit?

Re: Jazz mutes for euphonium
Muted euphonium is a pretty harsh sound, IMO. It will reduce the volume, though.
If you've got a rhythm section with bass, drums, and guitar/piano, and as long as you're not blasting, you shouldn't have too many problems with being too loud, mute or not.
