Pops orchestra audition - need excerpt suggestions

Post by TubaDrummer »

I have a pops orchestra audition coming up and I am supposed to bring in 2 excerpts to play. One classical excerpt and one pops or jazz excerpt.
Any suggestions?
Any current Pops Orchestra players out there?

I assume you mean for tuba.

Most of the good pops music is still under copyright and it will be hard to find parts. There are some John Williams signature edition charts that have seriously hard tuba parts.

I would try to find the pops work first and then pick a classical work that contrasts.

It’s possible that their librarian could help you out. They may know what they’re looking for.
The excerpt doesn’t have to be a back breaker. You just have to play it well.
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

An American in Paris would be a good one. And just about any John Williams excerpt.
